Laura Marling is one of the stars of the noughties so far in my eyes. Her first album was a huge hit with indie folk fans but it’s her second album that I think has to be in my top albums list.

The opening song ‘Devil’s Spoke’ shows her change of direction in music to a more serious approach while still using witty one liners and catchy melodies. The whole album is a collection of songs you need on constant repeat to really appreciate it and I’ve found it hard choosing my favourite songs from it!

I always wonder how artists choose the singles they release from each album, but saying that Rambling Man was the perfect choice. However they made this choice, it was the right one and is a perfect example of how mature her music is becoming.

as someone you don’t want to be.”

“Winter was on us, at the end of my nose.
And I never love England more than when covered in snow”
