First Aid Kit is a folk duo from Sweden made up of sisters Klara and Johanna. With an early introduction to music, Klara soon found her style with influences such as Bright Eyes, Emmylou Harris and Joni Mitchell. It wasn’t long till Klara persuaded Johanna to compose and sing with her, and now with their third album, Stay Gold, reaching Gold in Sweden it’s easy to see it’s one of the best decisions she’s made.

Stay Gold shows the girls’ talent through more mature lyrics on life and growing complexity of melody, like that of the single My Silver Lining.

Their style has evolved while still staying true to themselves. The album title has been the theme of their most recent tours, where the main focus is gold. Klara recently explained the phrase “I wish for once we could stay gold” was inspired by Robert Frost’s poem ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’ and this led to the completion of the song.

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Finally, one of my favourite songs from the album is possibly one of their most honest songs, which usually means it will resonate with the most people. Enjoy.
