Working from home can be equally a joy and a nightmare. It’s easy to get into a routine that doesn’t make the most of your surroundings. Getting the inspiration for your workspace is relatively easy, it’s settling on a style that takes a little planning. I’ve put together a few key ideas to help you create an inspiring home workspace, so hopefully this will fill you with ideas!
Think about what you work on in your space/office/studio. You understand this better than anyone, so you know what’s important to you and what inspires you. This should be the focal point of your space. For me, I’m inspired by the written word and photography, because this is mainly what I do. I also have an endless supply of notebooks and stationery. So, make a list of what you enjoy doing the most, what really gets that fire going in your belly and go from here.
Whatever you love, have it on display. Create a special area that you can go back to when you’re feeling uninspired or stuck. It will remind you why you do what you do and what makes you, you.
One of the most common boards you’ll find on Pinterest is Quotes. There’s a lot of crap out there, I’ll admit, but there’s always something that just makes sense of it all. Whether it’s a tough love “just get it done” or an encouraging “you’re worth more than you’ll ever know” there’s something for everyone. More modern workplaces are filling their walls with positive mottos because they know that on some level it works. So fill your work space with a quote that gets you, a quote that makes you get up in the morning and do what you do best!
It’s quite hard to find great copywriting books, but whenever I do find one I treasure it. It has something I need to progress, so it becomes part of my success. I feel the same about inspiring magazines, like Little White Lies. I like to display them in my workspace as a reminder, and so that they’re easily accessible whenever I need to be inspired. This is seperate to a bookcase, so be specific, and choose your favourites, or most useful.
