Francesca Woodman was a troubled artist. Struggling to be recognised as a photographer, she fought depression and survived her first suicide attempt. At 22 years of age she ended her life by jumping out of a loft window in New York. Recognition came, as it usually does with troubled artists, posthumous.
She is most well known for a collection of long shutter photographs of ghost-like women which has been described as bizarre but interesting, provoking strong reactions. For me they are stunning and what I truly love about photography.
